WiFi Keeps Disconnecting In Window 10

If your Wi-Fi keeps disconnecting in Windows 10, it can be frustrating, but there are several steps you can take to troubleshoot and resolve the issue. Follow these additional solutions:

  1. Forget and Reconnect to the Wi-Fi Network: Sometimes, simply forgetting the problematic network and reconnecting can resolve connection issues:
    • Go to “Settings” > “Network & Internet.”
    • Click on “Wi-Fi” in the left pane.
    • Under “Known networks,” select your Wi-Fi network.
    • Click “Forget” to remove the network.
    • Reconnect to the network by clicking on it and entering the password if prompted.
  2. Change Power Management Settings for Your Wi-Fi Adapter: Windows may be turning off your Wi-Fi adapter to save power, which can cause disconnections. To adjust this:
    • Right-click on the “Start” button and select “Device Manager.”
    • Expand the “Network adapters” section, right-click on your Wi-Fi adapter, and select “Properties.”
    • Go to the “Power Management” tab.
    • Uncheck the option that says “Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power.”
    • Click “OK” to save the changes.
  3. Adjust Roaming Sensitivity: Roaming sensitivity determines when your device switches between Wi-Fi access points. If it’s set too high, it might disconnect from a Wi-Fi network prematurely. Here’s how to change it:
    • Open the Command Prompt as an administrator. Right-click the “Start” button, select “Windows Terminal (Admin)” or “Command Prompt (Admin).”
    • Type the following command and press Enter:
sql
  • Look for “Roaming sensitivity” in the output. If it’s set to “Low,” you can change it to “Medium” by entering this command:

Update Your Wi-Fi Adapter Driver:

Outdated or incompatible drivers can cause connectivity problems. To update your Wi-Fi adapter driver:

  • Go to the manufacturer’s website for your laptop or Wi-Fi adapter and download the latest drivers.
  • Alternatively, you can use the Device Manager to update the driver. Right-click on your Wi-Fi adapter, select “Update driver,” and follow the prompts.

Disable IPv6:

Some users have reported that disabling IPv6 helped stabilize their Wi-Fi connections:

  • Go to “Settings” > “Network & Internet.”
  • Click on “Wi-Fi” in the left pane.
  • Click on “Change adapter options.”
  • Right-click on your Wi-Fi adapter and select “Properties.”
  • Uncheck the box next to “Internet Protocol Version 6 (TCP/IPv6).”
  • Click “OK” to save the changes.

Check for Interference:

Other electronic devices, neighboring Wi-Fi networks, or even physical obstacles can cause interference. Ensure that your router is placed in an interference-free location.

Use a Static IP Address:

Sometimes, DHCP (automatic IP assignment) can cause connectivity issues. You can try setting a static IP address for your Wi-Fi connection:

  • Go to “Settings” > “Network & Internet.”
  • Click on “Wi-Fi” in the left pane.
  • Click on “Change adapter options.”
  • Right-click on your Wi-Fi adapter and select “Properties.”
  • Select “Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4)” and click “Properties.”
  • Choose “Use the following IP address” and enter the IP address, subnet mask, default gateway, and DNS server manually. You may need to consult your router’s settings for these values.

Reset TCP/IP and Winsock:

Resetting these network components can sometimes help resolve connectivity issues. Open a Command Prompt as an administrator and run the following commands one by one, then restart your computer:

perl

After trying these solutions, check if your Wi-Fi connection remains stable. If the issue persists, it’s a good idea to contact your Internet service provider (ISP) or consider seeking professional technical assistance, as there could be an issue with your network infrastructure or ISP.
