Lionel Messi Removes Himself from Toronto FC Match in Crushing Inter Miami Blow

In an MLS battle against Toronto FC, Lionel Messi was back in the starting lineup for Inter Miami. However, he was substituted off the pitch after just 37 minutes, handing DeAndre Yedlin the captaincy.

After just 37 minutes of Inter Miami’s MLS match against Toronto FC, Lionel Messi was substituted off the pitch.

Messi was conspicuously missing from Miami’s starting squad for their recent 5-2 loss to Atlanta United. Head coach Gerardo “Tata” Martino disclosed that Messi was unable to play because of muscle exhaustion after the Atlanta United match. His availability on Wednesday night was now a question.

Jordi Alba, a fullback, had also taken a break during the game the weekend before, raising questions about their participation in the Toronto game. While Messi looked to make the decision to leave the game on his own, Alba was replaced three minutes before Messi in the game against Toronto. Messi appeared to have a minor limp, and Alba was seen applying ice to his hamstring, according to the Apple TV feed.

“There is no opportunity for them to play the Orlando match (on Sunday),” Martino told reporters after the game, “but I do not think there is anything serious or muscular injuries. I believe it is simply weariness.

Robert Taylor took Messi’s spot in the game, and Messi moved to the Miami bench. He was extending his right hamstring while seated on the bench, which raised questions about his health. Fans of Inter Miami were obviously agitated as a result and eventually left the stadium before the scheduled time.

The fact that Messi played versus Toronto was significant since it was his 12th game in 48 days. Messi’s pivotal contribution in Inter Miami winning the Leagues Cup was an important milestone during this challenging period.

As Messi left the pitch, the team captain made a kind gesture of sportsmanship by handing the armband to DeAndre Yedlin, the previous captain of Inter Miami, to signify the change in team leadership.

Inter Miami

While playing for his country, the 36-year-old Argentine great missed Inter Miami’s recent victories over Sporting KC and Atlanta, both by a score of 3-2. Messi missed Argentina’s 3-0 victory over Bolivia in their World Cup qualifying match on September 12 due to exhaustion. Fans and the media were curious about Messi’s health and playing status in the days leading up to these games because he was unavailable for remark.

The 36-year-old player hasn’t played much in September due to alleged exhaustion, and Inter Miami has a busy schedule coming up.

The group will take on Orlando on Sunday before hosting Houston in the US Open Cup final on September 27. It will play three more MLS games in quick succession: on September 30 at New York City FC, on October 4 at Chicago, and on October 7 at home against Cincinnati.

In their quest to clinch the final postseason position in the Eastern Conference, Inter Miami is seven points behind DC United. Two games that the Miami club has left to play could be crucial in narrowing the gap and securing a postseason berth. These crucial upcoming matches’ results will ultimately decide.

Lionel Messi and Jordi Alba exit early with injuries in Inter Miami win

On Wednesday night, Lionel Messi was back in the starting lineup for Inter Miami. His team rebounded after he left, so it was a fleeting comeback.

In the 37th minute of Inter Miami’s game versus Toronto, Messi was replaced after struggling for a few minutes with what appeared to be a leg problem. Miami performed admirably without him, winning 4-0 to close the gap on the final playoff berth in the Major League Soccer’s Eastern Conference to just five points.

Messi was replaced by Robert Taylor, who scored twice and provided an assist. But all of that was eclipsed by Messi’s fame.

After missing Argentina’s World Cup qualification victory against Bolivia on September 12 and Inter Miami’s 5-2 loss at Atlanta United last Saturday, the 36-year-old Messi had recently missed two matches one for club, the other for nation.

Both incidents were attributed to fatigue, but it appears the seven-time Ballon d’Or winner is injured now. Messi was replaced in the middle of the second quarter with the game still 0-0, and he left for the locker room before the break.

It was Inter Miami’s second significant setback due to an injury on Wednesday. A second lauded midseason signing, Jordi Alba, was forced to exit the game in the 34th, just before Messi’s night was ended. Before leaving the pitch for halftime, coach Gerardo ‘Tata’ Martino stated on Apple TV’s broadcast that the squad will assess both players over the following few days, but he did not provide any other information.

The other goals came from substitute Benny Cremaschi in the second half and Facundo Farias.

Messi had a few opportunities on Wednesday, but he appeared to stop moving abruptly in the 33rd minute after carrying the ball far into the Toronto box. After that, he was hardly paying attention, occasionally bending forward as if to stretch the backs of his legs, before finally taking off his captain’s armband and actually trying to complete a long pass while wearing it. He then waited for the game to end so he could leave.
