Sunday Night Football: Cowboys Annihilate Giants 40-0

You can be the bug or the windscreen depending on the situation. On Sunday Night Football, the Giants were the bug and the Cowboys the windscreen.

The Cowboys completely destroyed, embarrassed, and irritated the Giants. They defeated them 40-0 in one of the most lopsided season-opening games in NFL history on a soggy night at the Meadowlands.

The only time a team won by a bigger margin on opening day was the Steelers, who defeated the Browns 43-0 in 1999 when the Browns returned to Cleveland.

Sunday Night Football: Cowboys annihilate Giants 40-0

The Cowboys won their first game of the new season for the first time since 2019 when they defeated the Giants 35-17 in Arlington, marking Dak Prescott’s 11th straight victory over the Giants. Only Sunday night, the Giants wished it had been that close.

Even though Prescott only completed 13 of 24 throws for 143 yards, he was already cooling on the sidelines with 11:19 left in the fourth quarter.

The Cowboys scored three running scores, including two by Tony Pollard, in addition to a defensive touchdown and special teams touchdown. On 14 carries, Pollard gained 70 yards.

Osa Odighizuwa and Dorance Armstrong each recorded two sacks, as the Dallas defence dominated the Giants, restricting them to 171 yards while compiling 11 quarterback hits, seven sacks, and three forced turnovers. DaRon Bland scored a touchdown after returning his pick 22 yards.

The Cowboys scored first thanks to defensive back Noah Igbinoghene, who was just acquired in a trade from Miami. Graham Gano’s 45-yard field goal attempt was stopped by Juanyeh Thomas, and Igbinoghene returned it 58 yards for a score and a quick 6-0 lead after Brandon Aubrey failed to make the PAT.

Despite taking a hammering, Daniel Jones played almost to the very finish before leaving with 1:10 remaining. He ran for 43 yards on 13 carries and completed 15 of his 28 throws for 104 yards with two interceptions and a 32.4 passer rating.

Cowboys Embarrass Giants on the Road to Pick up First Win of 2023 Season

It doesn’t get much easier for the Dallas Cowboys than what transpired at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey on Sunday night, as they embarrassed the New York Giants in their 40-0 win to kick off the new year.

Head coach Brian Daboll and the Giants are going to want to throw this game tape in the trash, as everything that could’ve gone wrong, did.

It all began on the Giants’ first drive of the game, where they moved the ball well. Saquon Barkley and Daniel Jones were using their legs to get into Cowboys’ territory with a good chance to strike first.
